Adena Health System
Adena Health System is a network of health care facilities in Southern Ohio that includes a primary medical campus and eight remote locations. They employ over 2,200 people.
In 2008, Adena Health System began a significant construction project that would expand the size of its hospital facility and add a separate, new educational building to its main campus. As part of the new construction, Adena Health System knew it was necessary to address their physical security needs and to upgrade and improve the quality of their systems.
One of their primary objectives was to invest in a non-proprietary unified physical security solution, built around a single platform. Adena Health System recognized that an integrated platform would dramatically improve the hospital’s capability to protect patients and employees.
Beginning with an initial assessment provided by Adena Health System, Resource One completed an in-depth assessment and analysis of the planned and existing facilities, and made recommendations for a design and network architecture that would meet their goals.
Resource One created a phased project plan to help Adena Health System stay on schedule and on budget. Using this phased approach, Resource One installed:
- access control and network video in the IT area, which had no existing system previously
- access control and network video in the new educational building
- access control and network video in the expanded part of the hospital
- new employee badging and credential system in the HR department
Each system is connected to a Lenel OnGuard Total Security Knowledge Management Solution, a single security management platform which allows all video images and data to be shared in one place. In addition, Resource One integrated the infant protection system in the maternity ward with Lenel OnGuard so that the two work seamlessly together.
The new system has provided Adena Health System a centralized database, and eliminated the time consuming task of managing multiple data sources. It has allowed them to standardize on a corporate-wide credential, so that control of privileged access throughout the hospital campus is consistently administered. The new reporting system gives Adena Health System the ability to make more informed - and quicker - decisions. Each of the new systems are tied in to the campus-wide network infrastructure, allowing them to leverage the investment in their existing infrastructure.
The new unified model is entirely scalable and can handle unlimited future growth. In the future, Adena Health System plans to replace outdated security systems in existing and remote facilities, and will be able to easily integrate them into the new single system.
